Karnataka State Town Planning Board, Bangalore

 

 

The Karnataka Town and Country Planning Act, 1961 has come into force in the State with effect from 15.01.1965. Karnataka State Town Planning Board was constituted for the entire State under section 4 of the Karnataka Town and Country Planning Act and The Karnataka State Town Planning Board Rules, 1964 was formulated under the provisions of section 74 of the above said Act.

 

Important purpose

  1. Advising the State Government regarding planning and development.

  2. Determining principles and policies for achieving balanced development of the State as a whole.

  3. Aiding the State Government in formulation of state level policies relating to planning and development of urban and rural areas.


 

Composition of the Board: 

As per Rule 3 of the Karnataka State Town Planning Board Rules, 1964, the Board is constituted of the following members.

 

Ex-Officio members:

 

1.      Minister in charge of Urban Development

2.      The Minister of State, if any, in charge of Urban Development

3.      The Secretary to Government of Karnataka, Urban Development Department

4.      The Secretary to Government of Karnataka, Planning Department

5.      The Secretary to Government of Karnataka, Finance Department

6.      The Director, Health and Family Welfare Department

7.      The Chief Engineer, Public Works Department, (South)

8.      The Director of Town and Country Planning

9.      The Chairman, Karnataka Housing Board


Other Members:

 

1.      Five persons nominated by the State Government from among the members of local authorities in the State

2.      Three persons nominated by the State Government

Minister in charge of Urban Development is the Chairman and the Minister of State, if any, in charge of Urban Development would be the Vice-Chairman of the Board. The Director of Town and Country Planning is the Member-Secretary to the Board.

 

Important functions of the Board:

 

  1. Advice and Assist the Local Planning Authorities and the State Government in matters relating to planning, development and use of rural and urban lands in the State.

  2. Advise in the preparation and implementation of development plans and town planning schemes by local planning authorities.

  3. Undertake, assist and encourage the collection, maintenance and publication of statistics, bulletins on planning and its methodology.

  4. Prepare reports and furnish reports relating to the purpose of the Karnataka Town and Country Planning Act.

  5. Perform any other function which is supplemental, incidental or consequential to any of the functions aforesaid.
